The tensions between offering programmes that allow postgraduate and graduate students to compete amongst each other and/or mix teams are apparent at Stanford University. There are no easy answers to this dilemma.

Friendchip is an undergraduate startup at Stanford and faces an uphill battle to be accepted into programs as it competes with teams led by graduate students. Cofounder Christopher Lin Xin Lu ’20 remarks that the learning component realized by undergraduates is greater than that of graduates. He also compared Stanford’s startup scent to “Fight Club”.  You are not supposed to talk about startups for there are just so many of them on campus, and students are getting sick of hearing all the pitches all the time.
